Post Inauguration

It is my fervent wish that President Trump makes sound, logical and beneficial decisions about many different factors. All of us have a stake in his success and failure. Good Luck, President Trump.

Another HOTTEST Year on record

Well, CNN is reporting that 2016 was the latest HOTTEST year on record.

Get ready. This trend will continue until the Earth reaches temperatures that will rival those of Venus at approx. 900 Fahrenheit.

The Greenhouse Effect will make this planet into a Hell-ish place to be. The continuing increase in global temperatures would logically signify that we have passed a crucial stabilization point. We have  failed ourselves. We have failed our planet.

Nuclear Weapons

With President-Elect Trump's argument that the nuclear weapon capabilities of the United States need to be modernized,

Carl Sagan made this analogy regarding nuclear weapons.

We have one country with 10,000 matches while our country has 15.000 matches. We are stuck inside a room filled completely with gasoline. The massive amounts of overkill to destroy each other is hilarious.

It would certainly seem better to remove/drain the gasoline and reduce by a huge amount the number of matches we need.

The only insanely illogical need for nuclear weapons is to destroy our ONLY planet.

The only logical use for nuclear energy is to provide a path towards the development of fusion energy for abundant power without the additional harmful effects such as nuclear waste, or to provide increased levels of research into powering extra-planetary travel.

Deforestation

30 years ago, we were destroying one acre of land full of trees every second. That pace has not been reduced.

Simple facts:  Our cars, factories, animals, and even breathing all produce levels of Carbon Dioxide. You cannot breath Carbon Dioxide.

Trees and Plants eat/feed on Carbon Dioxide. They love it. In return, they cannot use the Oxygen that is generated by their using Carbon Dioxide, so they just give it back to the planet.

Guess What? You and everything else living with respiration loves Oxygen. You can breath Oxygen.

Do you really see why you should plant trees?

Do something now, before you won't be able to breathe,

Recent events

In light of recent events, perhaps it would be wise to illuminate a few points we should all keep in mind when our political representatives come to town and are looking for our votes.

1. Ask specifically about their position on Global Climate Change? What steps are they taking to help the situation? Have they voted to fund scientific based research solutions with verifiable actions? What are their positions on emissions gases? On renewable energy sources? All of us know that solar and wind powered electrical generation systems can produce greater levels of clean, usable energy without polluting our planet and ecosystems.

2. Have they provided funding to institutes of higher learning through grants and other funding sources to permit the further exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics? Make sure you understand the issues involved in solving these problems.  As of 2015, only Two (2) senators and representatives hold scientific degrees. Do you really believe that all of the others fully understand the scientific issues?

3. The National Science agency recieves 7.5 billion dollars in federal funding per annum. This sounds like a lot until you realize that the federal budget is now in he trillion of dollars, making this less than a few percent of spending on issues that affect all of us. Has your representative/senator supported this and other agencies similarly engaged in scientific research?

4. With ongoing issues with the Soviet Union, the International Space station cannot exchange crews without USSR launch engines. The United States no longer has a viable space launch platform. Private companies are actively pursuing this as a goal, but progress is not rapid and the ability to easily launch and recover is years away at best. Clearly, this is a situation that is volatile.

5. If your political representatives can't or won't seek solutions based on scientific principles and not structured, societal beliefs, consider writing letters to your newspaper editors or local media reps. Get the answers you need to make rational and science-based decisions.

Bite-sized Science

Consider planting a tree any time you can. One tree generates enough oxygen for about 4 people to breath. Some trees are better oxygen producers than others. Ask your county extension agent or horticulturalist for types.

Homelessness and Hunger are two things that become even more poignant at this time of year. Many of us encounter numerous people standing on street corners holding up cardboard signs. To alleviate our guilt, we will often give out change or dollar bills. This is in keeping with the good wishes of the season, but it doesn't solve the problem. It has been proven many times that by donating to actual charitable organizations, it does help solve the problem. Kindly make donations to the Salvation Army, your local homeless shelters and local food banks. Consider donating to mental health social service agencies in your community, and veterans outreach centers. All of the many people working in these areas do so without the financial support and gratitude they deserve.

Earth in the near future. Perhaps, renewable energy and tighter environmental restrictions will be required. Getting everyone to do that. Good Luck.
